A while ago I wrote about the scientific paper misrepresenting the nature of the scientific process. Below is a link to a time-lapse video that attempts to convey the processual nature of writing a paper, although it doesn’t deal with the process of coming up with hypotheses, only the process of writing the paper. In the video, the title of the paper alone changes five times, which often happens. One of the habits related to writing that i have tried to get rid of is playing with the layout. Of course it’s fun, and certainly serves a purpose, to try different layouts and see what looks good or not but it often doesn’t matter since the editors will take care of that.
