Any archaeologist interested in philosophy or semiotics should mark their calendar for the Oscar day seminar to be held this December in Helsinki. The deadline for paper abstracts was November the 1st, but I’m sure they are still accepting them. The topic of the seminar is not related to archaeology in particular but the theme suggests metaphorical uses of the term archaeology. I sent in a proposal for a paper titled “What can be known of the past?”. Be sure to come and check it out if you are in Helsinki on December the 3rd. Here is a link to the website of The Semiotic Society of Finland that will be arranging the seminar (in Finnish).
